Creative Center for Eco-Design

Creative Center for Eco-Design (est. 2011) at Kasetsart University Architecture emerges from Scrap Lab (est. 2007), an eco-Design initiative supported by Kasetsart University’s Office of the President. It is a creative hub committed to using ‘Design’ as a tool to address environmental problems and to instil environmental consciousness among the public through education, communication and consultation programs. Initially, it focused mainly on turning scraps into products, materials, shelters and other valued-added works through research and co-design. With the daunting environmental problems, striking a balanced between science and design strategy as well as giving public access to new design innovation are critical. Creative Center for Eco-Design takes on this integrated task. Creative Center for Eco-Design comprised of 3 main responsibilities:

1. Scrap Lab: an education arm of the Center, conducting courses and workshops on waste/scrap reclamation using creative experimentation and design as tools.

2. Green Material Library: a repository component of the Center. The growing numbers of construction materials developed with green production processes are invented all over the world. It is hard works to gather these sensible materials and group them for readily applications. The Center aims to host these materials and provide access to professionals, students and the public to come and use these green materials.

3. Design Consultation: a design and strategy development service component. With the commitment to use ‘integrated design and science’ in developing solutions to inefficient use of materials, teams of design and engineering experts focus on collaboration with manufacturers, governmental institutions or research centers in crafting solutions that will minimize impact on the environment (within the context of and minimal investment by the manufacturers) as well as outlining green marketing strategies.
