What is sustainable design ...?
Some architecture, especially, on common building typology is always treated as typical prototype and has always been repeatedly applied into different site under different context. The obvious is the metro station, which faced with the ineffectiveness of its methods, resulted in unsustainable development.
What if the architecture has been designed under the condition on surrounding concern and the limitation of architecture?
This thesis will propose a concern on the duplexity of context that sits in - between the delicacy of preservative historical area (The archeological site of Wang Tai Wat Phrachetupon palace and Museum Siam) and the massive construction of the metro station (Sanamchai Station). By experimenting on how to integrate criteria in architecture that are crucial but being neglected and to be equipped with customization method.



The case in point are raising the conditions in archaeological site and the complexity between construction methods which present to the metro station and finding the appropriateness of such construction for the historical site. The customization process can separate into four stages. The first stage is “Preliminary part” which is the design to distinguish the primary information. The starting point is to determine the topography in each critical level around the excavation areas and the metro rail. Consequently, the pattern of the topography reveal the possibility of space. The next experimental process is “Allowance part”. The thoroughly design include every inevitably condition and the limitation of the site in detail to define the space such as negative space, transition areas, narrative and classify the variety of structures in maximum as possible.



The third stage is “Simplified Form”. This part is one of the most crucial part of the design of an actual space. By attenuating, it can determine an area from the physical condition of the existing (the skins of architecture) which can define as a “ROOM”. The location of the rooms follows the history of five “Wang Tai Wat Phrachetupon palace”. Each of the palace surrounded by the different context leads them to have an identical methodology which each narrative connect as a network with Museum Siam.
 


The final design of the customization process represent the overall of the appropriate solution of such construction and function for the historical areas and metro station. In which is divided into three different zones which are the exhibition space, the station area and the common space.



Ultimately, The proposal will expose the history of the area that people could recognize its historical space in every part of the site and also could experience them along their movement from the station in order to turn it into the gateway of “Rattanakosin Island”
