การศึกษาการอนุรักษ์วัฒนธรรมที่อยู่อาศัยแบบดั้งเดิมและภูมิทัศน์ทางวัฒนธรรม รวมทั้งวิธีการใช้ประโยชน์เพื่อการพัฒนาชุมชนท้องถิ่นในเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ ในหมู่บ้านริมน้ำหรือบนลำน้ำของประเทศไทยและประเทศลาว ซึ่งผู้คนได้อาศัยอยู่ในเรือนอันมีรปแบบที่หลากหลายตามถิ่น เช่น เรือนไม้ยกสูงพื้นยกสูง เรือนลอยน้ำ เป็นต้น โดยมีการใช้ชีวิตในสภาพแวดล้อมทางนิเวศของลุ่มน้ำ วันนี้แม้ว่าความพยายามที่จะรักษาความหลากหลายทางวัฒนธรรมที่อุดมสมบูรณ์ในบริเวณริมน้ำนั้นก้าวหน้าไปในทั้งสองประเทศ แต่ภูมิทัศน์ทางวัฒนธรรมได้สูญเสียไปเนื่องจากการเปลี่ยนแปลงของสภาพแวดล้อมระบบนิเวศและรูปแบบการใช้ชีวิต
On the study of the conservation of traditional dwelling culture and cultural landscape and the ways how to make use of it for the further development of local community in mainland Southeast Asia. In the villages located near the river or on river basin of Thailand and Laos, people are living in various styles of the house, such as stilt, raised floor, and floating houses, and their living is also operated in the ecological environment of the watershed. Today, although efforts to preserve rich cultural diversity in waterfront are advanced in both countries, cultural landscape has been lost due to the changes in ecological environment and living style.
